Having an art and music program in school helps students build creativity and confidence in the student’s God-given talents. At Scofield, the visual and performing arts play an essential role in our academic program. Beginning in Pre-K3, the children are exposed to an art curriculum that encourages skill development and creativity. Our performing and visual arts programs span the students’ experience from pre-kindergarten through their sixth-grade year.
Cultivating an understanding and love of music and the visual arts by providing a positive environment where the student and teacher can explore the creative process is a goal of Scofield Christian School. Students share their artistic experiences with our school community during our annual concerts, choir competitions, and art display competitions.
The purpose of the art curriculum at Scofield is to help students develop and use their creativity and God-given abilities for His glory and honor. Through exposure to various media, styles, and art experiences, students will gain a basic understanding of art as a whole and how it relates to their world. The students explore many mediums and techniques and learn art history as they master the concept of design elements. Through art, students appreciate others’ self-expression as they realize that God has gifted individuals in varying ways. The curriculum helps students become aware of how individual expression can reflect inner thoughts, feelings, and abilities.
The students have the opportunity to enter their works into the ASCI art competition each year. We hope you enjoy the images of some of our art! The music program at Scofield Christian School is designed to provide our students with musical experiences that sequentially foster knowledge and skills from one grade level to the next. These developmental musical experiences help each student perceive music as a vehicle to express themselves personally and show praise and adoration of God through music.
All students attend Music weekly.
Students are given various performance opportunities that include individual, choral, and dramatic experiences across multiple school performances throughout the year. Our music program allows Scofield students to develop a level of confidence in themselves through memorization and performance in front of a live, and rather large, Scofield family audience.
The annual performances are Veterans Day/Grandparent’s Day Chapel, the Christmas program, and the spring musical. All Scofield students, even the littlest ones, play a large role in each of our school performances. Family, friends, and Scofield alumni are invited to attend each event.
Outside our weekly Music curriculum, beginning in 2nd grade, all students participate in All School Choir. Scofield’s All School Choir is another opportunity for students to express themselves musically, learn to memorize songs, and perform during ASCI Choir competitions.
In addition to All School Choir, our competitive choir, Cornerstone Chorale, is our award-winning competitive choir comprised of students who love singing and desire to further their musical repertoire.
