Scofield’s Upper Elementary School serves the 3rd through 6th grades, and our dedicated teachers focus on the holistic development of each student—academically, socially, emotionally, and spiritually. We offer a rigorous curriculum enriched with service learning and field trips to foster growth during these pivotal preteen years. Students also enjoy weekly classes, which we refer to as Specials, in technology, art, music, Spanish, and library, and a P.E. class four times per week. They still have daily recess to stay active and energized.
A key aspect of our program is the integration of Bible knowledge and truths into every subject, providing students with a faith-based perspective. Age-appropriate apologetics help them build a strong foundation in their faith, while daily emphasis on Godly character and the Honorable Character program’s 14 traits equip students with the tools for success in both academics and life.
Our third-grade program focuses on gaining competence and mastery of academic and life skills. The third-grade curriculum expands on the skills acquired in previous years and encourages our students to initiate and take responsibility for their learning. Understanding the concept of time management and learning how to plan becomes essential in third grade and helps to garnish and improve decision-making skills.
Students in third grade are exposed to learning experiences that allow them to apply their existing skills to new situations. With the use of individual school-issued binders, students practice organizational and study skills that are incorporated into their daily activities to support learning and lead to a seamless transition to fourth grade and beyond at Scofield.
The following Discovery Days continue the Scofield tradition of integrated projects which include public presentation and public speaking:
Fourth graders at Scofield learn to share ideas and value friendships, which helps create concern and respect for others. Students continue using executive function skills learned in 3rd grade, enabling them to be independent learners, with teachers emphasizing the importance of independent study, effective time management, and organization. In fourth grade, students begin to transition from a more teacher-dependent atmosphere to a climate of self-sufficiency and independence to help carry them into upper classes at Scofield and throughout their continued educational journey. They take a deeper dive into learning how to research for projects, preparing them to enter upper grades with a solid foundation in every subject.
Themed Activities in 4th grade reinforce academic learning. The following Discovery Days offer students the opportunity to grow as writers, researchers, public speakers, and project presenters.
Preparing for junior high school becomes a focus in fifth grade and is accomplished with academically challenging coursework, organizational skills, and character development. Students have the opportunity to learn responsibility by serving their school through the Leadership Committee. This group is continually serving, learning skills necessary to be a diligent worker and leader.
Unique and interactive experiences for 5th Graders include the following:
Leadership Team: Students at this level are invited to apply to Scofield’s Student Leadership Team. This group takes on daily tasks to serve our school in addition to venturing outside the building with community projects like Operation Christmas Child, the Soup’s On fundraiser and Buckner International’s Shoes for Orphan Souls.
Reading Buddies: Every Friday, our students partner up with Kindergarteners for our Reading Buddies program, which has been a source of joy for them all.
Sixth graders at Scofield Christian School focus on leadership, responsibility, and teamwork. As students prepare for junior high, they are given opportunities to take ownership of their education. They use planners to keep track of their assignments, are issued lockers to manage their materials, and are granted a variety of expanded leadership opportunities throughout the year.
Unique and interactive experiences for 6th Graders include the following:
Leadership Team: Students at this level are invited to apply to Scofield’s Student Leadership Team. This group takes on daily tasks to serve our school in addition to venturing outside the building with community projects like Operation Christmas Child, the Soup’s On fundraiser and Buckner International’s Shoes for Orphan Souls.
Reading Buddies: Every Friday, our students partner up with Kindergarteners for our Reading Buddies program, which has been a source of joy for them all.
Chapel: Finally, students plan, prepare and present a minimum of two chapel programs for the entire student body and outside guests. This affords all students invaluable training and public speaking opportunities.
