Lower Elementary
Lower Elementary Grades
Scofield’s Lower Elementary School includes Kindergarten through 2nd grade and is where children begin building a strong foundation as lifelong learners while discovering Christ’s love for them. At this age, we introduce Bible as an academic subject. In addition, Biblical truths and age-appropriate apologetics are integrated throughout our curriculum. As students grow, they also deepen their understanding of the character traits emphasized in our Honorable Character program.
Our academically challenging program fosters independence, creativity, problem-solving, confidence, and perseverance. With small class sizes, we ensure personalized attention that caters to all learning styles. Students begin participating in our weekly Specials classes in technology, art, music, Spanish, library, and P.E. They have multiple daily recesses to stay active and energized. By the end of their lower elementary years, students see themselves as capable individuals, ready to use their talents and gifts for the good of others, preparing them for success in upper elementary and beyond.

Kindergarten at Scofield
Scofield’s Kindergarten program is a biblically integrated curriculum designed to teach the whole child. Our main goal is to train students to become young men and women of deep conviction and unwavering faith in Christ.
Curriculum
- Bible teaching at this grade level focuses on an overview of the Old Testament with God’s plan to establish the nation of Israel.
- Language Arts studies use an explicit phonics program and engage in “Daily 4 Rotations” for reading and phonics practice. We focus on reading comprehension, research, and inquiries related to science, alongside the writing process. Penmanship is further developed.
- Math skills are enhanced through fact fluency games and programs.
- Science covers exploration of our world includes weather, living things in their environment with a bug project and Candy Cane science.
- Social Studies – Our community and jobs in the community. Early Thanksgiving including a Thanksgiving feast
- Digital resources support learning in ELAR, Math, and reading comprehension.
Discovery Days & Activities
Themed activities emphasize hands-on learning and interactive experiences while enriching students’ understanding of science and history. Some notable highlights are:

Full-Day Program (M-F)
Attend full days, five days a week.Part-Time Program (M-F / T W Th)
Attend full days on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday
Attend mornings only on Monday and Friday
Option to add Monday and/or Friday afternoons for an additional $600 per afternoon

Our 2nd grade curriculum provides a comprehensive and engaging learning experience for students, integrating biblical principles throughout every subject.
Curriculum
- Bible curriculum introduces students to an age-appropriate apologetics approach, helping them understand the life of Jesus through the Gospels in a relatable manner.
- Language Arts studies develop reading skills while explicit phonics instruction is utilized, emphasizing foundational literacy skills.
- Novel study is introduced with The Courage of Sarah Noble.
- Math concepts are taught using a spiral approach which allows for continuous review and reinforcement of key concepts.
- Science is a faith based curriculum that covers the scientific method, life, physical and earth science, and the human body.
- History traces America’s past, present and future and they discover their role as American citizens. We study communities and the western expedition of Americans through the Oregon Trail.
Discovery Days & Activities
In addition to core subjects, students participate in hands-on Discovery Days that enhance their learning through practical application and experience. Here are some key events:
- The Communities Project
- Students engage with community leaders, culminating in the creation of a model community building that showcases their understanding of social structures.
- The Habitat Project
- Second Graders study different habitats around the world and construct a model of one habitat, fostering creativity and critical thinking.
- The Oregon Trail re-enactment
- This interactive project allows students to learn about westward migration, connecting historical lessons to real-life experiences.
This holistic approach ensures that students not only grasp essential academic concepts but also develop a deeper understanding of their community and the world around them.
