- Fine and gross motor skills learning, and activities range from playdoh sessions to indoor obstacle courses, with outdoor play areas dedicated to activities like gardening, water play, and playground time.

Pre-K 4 at Scofield
Our Pre-K 4 curriculum focuses on hands-on and interactive learning through a variety of centers that change weekly based on the curriculum.
Curriculum
- Bible: Students have daily Bible lessons which consist of chronological Bible stories. They also incorporate weekly Bible verses that match the letter of the week.
- Language Arts: A new letter is introduced each week. Our handwriting program helps teach children the correct way to write each letter with proper crayon grip. Language is incorporated in daily activities in centers such as arts and crafts, math, and science.
- Math and Science: Each week a new number (0-20) and shape is taught, along with concepts like big and small or heavy and light. Our science lessons cover topics like the seasons, weather, insects and water. They provide visual learning and hands-on learning experiences to teach the material.
- Learning through play is an important part of our learning which encourages creativity, imagination, and foundational skills.
- The “Pretend and Learn” center is aligned with the weekly letter or science topic, making learning engaging and relevant.
- These interactive centers support children’s development in both academic and creative areas, helping to build a well-rounded foundation for kindergarten readiness.
- Daily Prayer is an integral part of our day. It is implemented at the start of the day, before snack and at lunch. Prayer is also taught when children are feeling sad, angry or upset we can pray and ask God to help us.
- Discovery/Activity Days are fun learning days where kids get to do an activity that aligns with what they are learning that week. 4K does a transportation day in the fall where kids bring bikes and scooters to school and get to ride around in the gym. They also do a superhero day during letter S week where kids can come dressed as superheroes.

Transitional Kindergarten (TK) at Scofield
Our Transitional Kindergarten is a bridge between Pre-K and Kindergarten and is designed for students who would benefit from another year or the ‘gift of time’ for cognitive and social-emotional development.
When appropriate, an extra year before kindergarten helps a child learn to enjoy school, take on responsibility, and become a life-long learner. The focus of Scofield’s Transitional Kindergarten program is hands-on, center-based learning with a focus on emerging literacy and math. It is more rigorous than our Pre-K 4 program, but not quite as advanced as Kindergarten.
Curriculum
- Bible is taught in chronological order using child-centered Bibles and stories. Each week there are scripture verses aligning with the Bible story, that they practice and memorize weekly.
- Language Arts in TK focuses on developing early reading through phonics skills, and writing. The curriculum begins with learning how to write uppercase and lowercase letters and transitions to decoding CVC (consonant-vowel-consonant) words, such as “cat” and “dog.” By spring, many students start reading simple books, such as Bob Books, and continue to explore word families. This balanced approach helps students build a strong foundation in literacy while preparing them for more advanced reading and writing activities.
- Math instruction guides students from basic number recognition to understanding addition using manipulatives.
- Science activities provide varied interactive experiences such as cloud-in-a-jar experiments, moon observations with a telescope, and exploring simple machines through fun physics activities.
- Fine and gross motor skills are still growing at this age. Teachers work with students to have correct pencil grasp; they play with playdoh and work on puzzles. For gross motor skills TK attends PE daily, goes to the playground and provides plenty of opportunity for movement in the classroom.
- Social and emotional learning is deeply rooted in biblical teachings, focusing on understanding feelings, seeking forgiveness, and building kindness.
- Daily prayer is a central part of the program, encouraging gratitude, guidance, and praise, fostering a loving and supportive environment for the children.

Additionally, the TK program integrates themed role-playing activities, allowing children to engage in imaginative play while learning about different roles and responsibilities.
